THE MODERN SCOTTISH GROOM

At Sett, we believe the modern Scottish groom should be just as invested in what he wears as every other detail of the wedding day.

For us, creating a wedding look isn't simply about choosing a suit or kilt. It's about understanding your style, knowing the rules of traditional tailoring and Highlandwear, and knowing when to break them.

Because it's often the little details that make the biggest difference. The cloth, cut, lapel, lining and accessories can completely transform an outfit. We love taking classic foundations and adding our creative expertise to make them feel fresh, considered and completely personal.

Here are four of our favourite wedding looks, showing just how much individuality you can bring to your big day.

CHARCOAL DOUBLE-BREASTED SUIT

Almost everyone owns a charcoal suit, it’s become a staple colour in formalwear. Here is how we elevated this wardrobe staple.

We chose a merino wool cloth from Abraham Moon, giving the suit a depth and richness you simply don't get from an off-the-peg alternative. The double breasted jacket and wide peak lapels create a confident silhouette, while turned up trousers add that unmistakable bespoke feel.

A vintage patterned tie brings a splash of colour and personality, creating contrast without taking away from the sophistication. This is for the groom who loves a classic look but is happy to stand out from the crowd a little.

SIGNATURE KILT OUTFIT

You can always count on a kilt making an appearance at a Scottish wedding but how often do you see one genuinely designed around the individual? Our Signature Kilt Outfit combines a bespoke Highlandwear jacket and waistcoat with carefully chosen accessories, celebrating Scottish tradition while feeling completely personal.

The tartan is only the beginning. Your jacket, waistcoat, sporran, kilt pin, sgian dubh and tie can all become part of the creative process. For this look, we chose a striking light bovine sporran with a subtle stag motif cantle, matching chrome thistle kilt pin and sgian dubh, finished with cream socks and a matching tartan tie. This is for the groom who wants to embrace his Scottish heritage, but make it unmistakably his.

TREWS OUTFIT

When you hear ‘trews’, a modern Scottish groom might not be the first thing that springs to mind. And that's exactly why we love them!

Tradition doesn't have to mean standing still. Our Eternity tartan trews are paired with a tailored suit jacket and waistcoat, creating a contemporary take on Scottish dress.

The longer line of the suit jacket gives the outfit a modern silhouette, while the matching tartan tie brings the traditional elements together. It's a balance of old and new, Scottish heritage with a modern tailoring sensibility. This is for the groom who wants to do things a little differently.

WHITE TUXEDO

Black tie doesn't always have to mean black. We love encouraging modern Scottish grooms to experiment with colour, texture and pattern while keeping the timeless elegance of black tie.

For this look, we chose a beautiful white linen cloth and paired it with a soft moleskin lapel instead of traditional satin, giving it a subtle old Hollywood feel with a fresh, contemporary edge. We added a floral Liberty lining with a matching bow tie for a little extra personality. It’s a great choice for the groom who wants to try something a little different while still keeping the look elegant and timeless.

THE SETT APPROACH

We feel there is no single definition of what a modern Scottish groom should look like and that's the exciting part. You might want to embrace tradition, challenge it, or combine the two to create something completely your own.

At Sett, we bring together our expertise in tailoring, Highlandwear, fabrics, colour and styling with your ideas and personality.

From beautiful fabrics and distinctive linings to buttons, lapels and finishing details, every choice is an opportunity to create something personal. Great tailoring isn't just about looking good. It's about creating something that feels like you!
